Gameday weather forecast:

STATS from Week 9 & 10

Gator Bits:
  • The last meeting between Gateway & Woodland Hills was on September 4, 2004, a 47-6 Gateway victory in the anchor game of the PA Kickoff Classic
  • Woodland Hills and Gateway have met twice in a season only once before - in 2002, Terry Smith's first year as Head Coach, Woodland Hills won both games, including the WPIAL Semifinal Game. In that game, the upstart Gators actually led at halftime before WH dominated in the 2nd half to get the win.
  • After returning to action against Connellsville and gaining 100 yards on 13 carries, Gators star RB Justin King is expected to be at full strength to take on the Wolverines
  • King became only the 4th WPIAL AAAA rusher to break the 4,000 yard mark, when he sprinted 68 yards on the first play of the game against Connellsville
  • Justin King had 19 rushes for 188 yards and 4 TD's against Woodland Hills earlier this season
  • "He's an outstanding athlete," Woodland Hills coach George Novak said. "He's got great speed, and we don't have anybody to run with him."
  • Gateway held Woodland Hills to ZERO first half yards and 174 total yards of offense and 6 points in their Sept. 4th game
  • The shutout against Connellsville was Gateway's 4th defensive shutout of the season. The 4 shutouts in a season are the most since 1987, when under the helm of Coach Antimarino, the Gators shutout North Allegheny, Connellsville, Hempfield, and Penn Hills. The win also marked the 7th time in 10 games that the Gators "D" held the opposition to 12 points or less
  • King and the Gators envoked the PIAA mercy rule on the Wolverines for the first time in the program's history. It was Woodland Hills' worst loss since Oct. 17, 1997, when it lost to North Allegheny, 45-0. "I'll be honest, I didn't even realize it," Novak said of having a 35-point second-half deficit. "I was into the game. I was happy with the kids. They didn't give up."
  • Woodland Hills Coach Novak in September, 2004: "They just have more experience than us right now. Gateway and Central Catholic are two of the top teams in the WPIAL, we're trying to get back to that level. We have to improve each game and be at our best when the playoffs arrive."
  • In their victory against Mt. Lebanon in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs, Woodland Hills QB Marc Rosato led the Wolverines by completing 6 of 15 passes for 257 yards and a career-high four TD's, going over 1,000 yards on the season. "Give Marc credit," Woodland Hills coach George Novak said. "He brought us back. Our line did a good job giving him time to throw." The teams combined for six turnovers and 16 penalties in the game. Woodland Hills senior safety Jon Edwell helped the Wolverines take the lead with a first-half interception, then preserved it with another in the final moments.
  • Gateway has moved up two spots to #23 in the USAToday Top 25 High School poll. Pittsburgh Central Catholic is ranked #7.
  • Since Woodland Hills was formed in 1987, Gateway is 3-14 against Woodland Hills
  • The Gators have won their last two games against Woodland Hills, 26-12 in 2003, and 47-6 in 2004.
  • Gateway's overall record since 1958 is 302-167-13
